The Journal of the American Medical Association explains that Carbon Monoxide is the number one cause of poisoning deaths in the United States, and more than 10,000 injuries a year can be attributed to the invisible poison.

Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that is produced from incomplete combustion of fossil fuel appliances including gas furnaces, oil furnaces, gas fireplaces and even automobiles. Carbon monoxide detectors give an alarm when the gas is detected at harmful levels, allowing you to leave the building or ventilate the area.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, smoke inhalation, not burns, is the cause of most fire deaths. When a home is on fire, you have only minutes – if not seconds – to get your family out before the fire consumes all of the available oxygen. For attic units, water may leak through your ceiling if a problem occurs with the unit.
