Cam Newton vs. Peyton Manning: Who Is Cooler?
Today is a big day for football fanatics. Whether you’re a Carolina Panthers fan or you want the Denver Broncos to win, today’s football showdown is bound to get your heart pounding. But when comparing quarterbacks Cam Newton and Peyton Manning, who is cooler? Set aside your feelings about the Panthers and the Broncos for a moment and consider the lives and talents behind the men that lead each team.
At 39 years old, Manning has been playing in the NFL since 1998. With 17 seasons under his belt, the upcoming big game could be his last. He has been named the league’s MVP five times, led the Indianapolis Colts to eight division championships, has been named to 14 Pro Bowls, has 13 4,000-yard passing seasons, and will finish his career with a total of four appearances at football’s biggest showdown. In all, Manning’s playing career and impressive statistics have ranked him among the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
At only 26 years old, Newton is the relative new kid on the block. He was named the 2011 NFL Rookie of the Year, is a three-time Pro Bowler and was a member of the NFL All Pro First Team in 2015. He broke a 35-year record by running for 14 touchdowns in a single season and even set an all-time record as the first quarterback to throw for 30 touchdowns and rush for 10 in the same season. In the end, Newton has a long and promising career ahead of him.
Manning was married in 2001 and together he and his wife have twins, a boy and a girl. He co-authored a book in 2000 about his father, Archie Manning (former NFL quarterback), he and his brother, Eli (current New York Giants quarterback), and the Manning family’s football legacy. Peyton also has his own charity, The Peyback Foundation. The mission is to help disadvantaged kids, especially those living in Louisiana, Tennessee and Indiana.
Newton also comes from a family of football players. One brother is a center for the Baltimore Ravens and the other is a starting quarterback for his high school football team. In addition to his time on the field, Newton is known for being a motivation speaker. Like Manning, he also runs a foundation. His is called the Cam Newton Foundation, which has a goal “to ensure that children’s socioeconomic, educational, physical and emotional needs are enhanced” through education, athletic programs, community service and charitable giving programs.
Where They’re From
While Manning has played professional football for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, he hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. This popular city sees thousands of tourists each year. People come to visit the French Quarter, St. Charles Avenue and Magazine Street, and of course to celebrate Mardi Gras. As the birthplace of jazz and delicious cuisine, being from New Orleans is pretty cool.
Since his professional career started in 2011, Newton has played for the Carolina Panthers, but he was born in College Park, Georgia. It’s a small town of only 14,000 people, but an international airport and convention center are both locate within city limits. A surprising number of notable people were also born in College Park, including rappers Ludacris, Yung Joc, Rich The Kid, Kap G and OG Maco, making this small town a pretty cool place to hail from.
