Indoor Air Quality is a Factor as Season Changes
WACO, Texas (March. 14, 2014) – As the colder months fade and spring brings flowers to bloom, houses will become filled with the air of spring. As the weather becomes warmer and the heat gets turned off, it is important that the air in your home is as clean as possible.
Indoor air quality can be improved to ensure that the levels of air contaminates being breathed in is at minimal and non-hazardous levels.
Indoor air quality can be lowered by several factors to include dust, smoke, dander, allergens, viruses and bacteria. More serious dangers to indoor air quality are mold, carbon monoxide and asbestos. As houses have become more energy efficient, air leakage has reduced to a minimum – causing indoor air pollutants to become more concentrated.
Other indoor air quality contaminants such as volatile organic compounds “VOC’s” like paints, household cleaners and other chemicals should be properly used and stored to ensure indoor air quality is at acceptable levels in the home.
“Indoor air quality is very important,” said Doyle James, president of Aire Serv. “Homeowners should take the necessary steps so that all of the natural and manmade pollutants are reduced to a minimum. Air filters, a normal component of most air conditioning systems, come in all types, shapes and sizes. Each has a different purpose and can help in its own unique way. Determine if the cause of your indoor air challenges are particulates, microbial or gases (VOCs) and talk to an air quality expert on what best suits your needs.”
Rugs and carpets act like filters and trap dander and hair, especially dog and cat hair increased by animals losing their winter coats. Vacuum rugs and carpets to reduce the amount of dander in the air and trapped in the carpet and rug fibers. HEPA style vacuum cleaners can help reduce the amount of dust that is stirred up during the cleaning process.
Indoor air quality can be compromised by the presence of mold (microbial). Mold can be caused by excess humidity, and improper ventilation. The best remedy for mold is to reduce any unusual sources of moisture, and make sure your air conditioning system is cleaned and operating a peak efficiency.
A properly sized, properly operating air conditioning system outfitted with the proper air filtration and purification system is the best way to insure a healthy environment in your home.
