When should I replace my heat pump?

You should consider replacing your heat pump if it is 10 to 15 years old, needs frequent repairs, or struggles to keep your home comfortable. Rising utility bills, loud operation, and a system that uses phased-out R-22 refrigerant are also signs that replacement may be the better value. A free in-home estimate will help you compare the cost of repair and replacement.

Do heat pumps work well in Knoxville winters?

Heat pumps work well in Knoxville winters because temperatures usually stay above the range where heat pumps lose significant efficiency. Most modern heat pumps heat effectively into the 20s, and auxiliary heat strips provide backup on the coldest nights. This balance makes heat pumps one of the most practical systems for East Tennessee homes.

What are the benefits of a heat pump over a separate AC and furnace?

A heat pump provides both heating and cooling in one system, which can lower energy costs compared with electric resistance heat and simplify maintenance. Heat pumps move heat rather than generating it, making them highly efficient in moderate climates like East Tennessee. They also remove humidity in summer, helping homes feel more comfortable during muggy months.

How long does heat pump installation take?

Most heat pump installations take one day, and straightforward replacements may finish in four to eight hours. Installations that require new ductwork, a new air handler, electrical upgrades, or a conversion from a different system type can take longer. Your technician will give you a time estimate during the free in-home evaluation.

Heat Pump Replacement Made Easy in Knoxville

Personal estimates, payment options, and installation work you can count on.

Aire Serv of Knoxville provides free in-home estimates for heat pump replacement. A heat pump has to handle both humid summers and cold winter nights, so we size it based on your home's layout, insulation, windows, and ductwork rather than quoting over the phone. Your technician explains efficiency options and gives you an upfront price by the job, not the hour, so you can compare choices clearly. Proper sizing also helps the system manage humidity in summer and limits how often backup heat strips switch on in winter.
Financing makes it easier to replace an aging heat pump before it fails during the coldest or hottest stretch of the year. Aire Serv of Knoxville also offers discounts for seniors, military members, veterans, first responders, and teachers, along with local promotions that change throughout the year. Ask about current savings when you schedule your estimate. Replacing on your own timeline also gives you more control over equipment choices than an emergency replacement does.
Every heat pump installation is handled by licensed technicians, and Aire Serv of Knoxville is fully insured. Our workmanship and parts are guaranteed, warranties are available, and every installation is backed by the Neighborly Done Right Promise®. If a repair is the better value for your current system, your diagnostic fee is waived when you approve that repair. Before the technician leaves, your new heat pump is tested in both heating and cooling modes.

How We Install Your New Heat Pump

A heat pump installation from Aire Serv of Knoxville starts with an in-home evaluation of your heating and cooling load, existing ductwork, and electrical service. Because Knoxville winters bring regular freezing nights, your technician also reviews auxiliary heat options so the system keeps up on the coldest days. On installation day, the old equipment is safely disconnected and removed, the new outdoor unit is set on a level pad, and the indoor air handler or coil is installed or updated. Refrigerant lines are connected and pressure-tested, electrical connections are completed, and the thermostat is configured for heat pump operation. Before leaving, the technician runs the system in both heating and cooling modes, verifies refrigerant charge and airflow, and checks defrost operation. You'll also learn how to use your thermostat and when to schedule seasonal maintenance.
