Why Is My AC Not Cooling?

An AC that runs but is not cooling usually has a dirty air filter, a frozen evaporator coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor, or a dirty outdoor condenser coil. Start by checking the thermostat setting, replacing the filter, and making sure the outdoor unit is running. If the outdoor fan is still or ice is forming on the refrigerant lines, turn the system off and schedule AC service.

What Are the Signs My Air Conditioner Needs Repair?

An air conditioner usually needs repair when it blows warm air, short-cycles, makes buzzing or grinding noises, leaks water indoors, or raises your electric bill without a change in use. Weak airflow from the vents and high indoor humidity are other early signs. Catching these problems early often means a smaller repair than waiting until the system stops completely.

How Much Does AC Repair Cost?

The cost of AC repair depends on what's causing the problem, and Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon sets a by-the-job price before any work begins. Diagnosing the problem costs $99, and that amount is subtracted from your repair total if you move ahead. Replacing a capacitor or clearing a drain line typically costs much less than repairing a refrigerant leak or replacing a compressor.

Should I Repair or Replace My Air Conditioner?

Replacement is usually the better choice for an air conditioner that's past the 10- to 15-year mark, breaks down repeatedly, or runs on R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer produced in the United States. If a repair would cost close to half the price of a new system, replacement is often the better long-term value. Your technician can give you a repair price and an in-person estimate for a new system so you can compare.

Is It Safe to Keep Running an AC That's Not Cooling?

Running an air conditioner that isn't cooling can damage the compressor, especially if the evaporator coil is frozen or the refrigerant is low. If you see ice on the lines, hear grinding, or notice the outdoor unit isn't running, turn the system off at the thermostat. Let a frozen coil thaw, then schedule a repair to keep a fixable problem from becoming a compressor replacement.

Why Westlake Chooses Aire Serv for AC Service

Fast scheduling, clear pricing, and real answers when your air conditioner stops cooling.

With same-day air conditioner repair from Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon, you don't spend days waiting in a warm, sticky house. Same-day openings are filled first-come, first-served between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Westlake summers bring muggy weather, and an air conditioner that stops running also stops pulling moisture out of the air. A quick repair keeps indoor humidity in check and protects the rest of the system from the strain of running with a failing part.
You pay the diagnostic fee upfront, and it's credited directly toward your AC repair when you approve the work. The technician uses that visit to find out why your AC is not cooling, whether the cause is a failed capacitor, a refrigerant leak, a frozen evaporator coil, or a clogged condensate drain. Then you get a by-the-job price for the fix instead of an hourly estimate that can grow while the work is underway. You know the full cost before any repair begins.
Someone answers the phone at Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon 24/7, so you can report a cooling problem the moment you notice it, even late at night. Online requests get a call or text back from our customer service representatives between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. For urgent cooling problems, limited weekday evening appointments may be available on a case-by-case basis. Calling early puts you in line for the next same-day opening and gets a technician to your Westlake home sooner.

How We Repair Air Conditioners in Westlake Homes

Every AC repair from Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon starts with the basics: the technician confirms the thermostat settings, checks the air filter, and looks at the breaker and outdoor disconnect. From there, they test the capacitor, contactor, and fan motors at the condenser, measure refrigerant pressures, and inspect the condenser and evaporator coils for dirt, ice, or leaks. The condensate drain line is checked as well, since a clog can shut the system down or cause water damage. Once the cause is found, you get an upfront price, and the repair is completed after you approve it. The technician then runs the system and measures the air temperature at the supply vents to confirm your Westlake home is cooling properly again.
