How Does a Ductless Mini-Split System Work?

A ductless mini-split cools a home by connecting an outdoor condenser to one or more indoor wall units through a small refrigerant line set, with no ductwork needed. Each indoor unit has its own controls, so you can cool individual rooms or zones. Many mini-splits are also heat pumps that can heat your home in cooler weather.

Is Ductless AC a Good Option for Older Homes?

Ductless AC is often a good option for older homes because it delivers efficient cooling without installing ductwork in walls, ceilings, or attics. Each indoor unit needs only a small opening in an exterior wall for its line set. That makes it a practical choice for Lakewood homes built before central air, as well as sunrooms, additions, and finished attics.

How Many Indoor Units Will I Need?

The number of indoor units a ductless system needs depends on how many rooms or zones you want to cool, the size of each space, and how open the floor plan is. A single unit can handle one large room or open area, while a whole-home setup often uses one unit per bedroom plus one for the main living space. Your in-person estimate will map out the right layout.

Are Ductless Mini-Splits Energy Efficient?

Ductless mini-splits are among the most energy-efficient cooling options because they avoid the energy losses that happen in ductwork and use variable-speed compressors that adjust output to demand. Zoned control also lets you cool only the rooms you're using. Many models carry high SEER2 ratings, which can lower summer electric bills.

How Do I Maintain a Ductless AC System?

Maintaining a ductless AC system starts with cleaning the indoor unit's washable filters about once a month during heavy use and keeping the outdoor unit clear of leaves, snow, and debris. A yearly professional tune-up should include cleaning the coils and blower wheel, checking refrigerant levels, and clearing the condensate drain. Regular care helps prevent musty odors and keeps the system efficient.

Why Lakewood Homeowners Choose Us for Ductless Installation

Ductless systems suit homes without ducts, and careful planning makes the install work.

Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon prefers to give ductless AC estimates in person, so the technician can see each room you want to cool, evaluate heat gain, and plan where indoor units and line sets will go. Many Lakewood homes were built before central air was common, and plaster walls or finished attics can make adding ducts difficult. A ductless system avoids that, but unit placement affects both comfort and appearance. An approximate estimate on our website and limited phone estimates are also available.
ou get one by-the-job price for your ductless AC installation instead of an hourly bill, so you know the full cost before work begins, whether you're cooling one room or several zones. Financing is available to spread out the cost of a multi-zone system. A 10% discount on any service is also available to first responders, teachers, veterans, military members, and seniors. Ask about financing during your Lakewood estimate so you can plan the project around your budget.
Your ductless system's installation is covered by a workmanship warranty from Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon, and extra warranty protection can be added if you'd like it. The job is also covered by the Neighborly Done Right Promise®. We also repair ductless split systems, so the same local company that installs your system can service it later, with same-day repair and a diagnostic fee credited toward the fix.

How We Install Ductless Mini-Splits in Lakewood Homes

A ductless installation from Aire Serv of Lakewood-Avon starts with confirming where each indoor unit will go, usually high on a wall where it can move air across the room. The technician mounts the indoor unit, drills a small opening through the exterior wall, and runs the refrigerant line set, wiring, and condensate drain to the outdoor unit. The outdoor condenser is set on a level pad or wall bracket, and the line set is covered where needed. Refrigerant lines are pressure-tested and evacuated before the system is charged. The technician then tests each zone, checks airflow and temperature, and shows you how to use the remote and clean the filters. Lakewood homeowners get cooling in the rooms that need it most without adding ductwork.
