To assist homeowners on their quest for safe water, we’ve added water filtration, water purification, and water softening system installation, repair, and maintenance services to select Aire Serv locations.
Unlike a filtered water pitcher or an under-sink filter, these whole-house systems improve the quality of water that comes from every tap and faucet in your home. Read on to learn more about these services.
Available Aire Serv Water Treatment Services
Whether you have city or well water, it’s important to have your home’s water tested and to install softening, filtration, or purification technologies if appropriate. Participating Aire Serv locations can test your water for mineral content, impurities, and contamination to determine whether your home requires any kind of water treatment system.
Below, we’ve listed the three solutions select Aire Serv locations now offer.
Whole House Water Softener
Hard water or mineral-rich water can be found in homes with city or well water systems. While hard water is not necessarily dangerous, it can make glassware hard to clean, cause damage to household appliances, stain clothing, and more. Hard water can also cause damage to hair, skin, and nails.
A whole house water softener “softens” a home’s water by reducing mineral content through a process called ion exchange. This process allows hard water to pass through sodium, exchanging ions along the way and reducing mineral content.
Whole House Water Filtration Systems
Water filtration is the process by which water is run through a microscopic filter that is designed to collect impurities like chlorine, magnesium, iron, and more. Water filters also help to stop growth of bacteria and algae in a water system by removing small particles through a filter – but they don’t offer the same assurances as a water purification system.
The types of whole house water filtration systems include activated carbon filters, distillation, and reverse osmosis.
Water Purification Systems
Water purifiers do not filter impurities like chlorine or iron, but they purify water by killing select bacteria, algae, and viruses. Modern residential water purifiers use either a system of UV lights to kill pathogens or purify through the introduction of a sanitizing chemical like iodine or chlorine.
Water purification systems are generally viewed as more “heavy-duty” but it really comes down to the quality of your home’s water. It is possible for it to contain bacteria, but not be hard or have large amounts of chlorine, making a water purification system the most appropriate form of treatment.
