How Does a Ductless Mini-Split System Work?

A ductless mini-split system moves heat between an outdoor compressor and one or more indoor air handlers connected by a small refrigerant line set, delivering conditioned air directly into each room without ductwork. Each indoor unit has its own controls, so different rooms or zones can be set to different temperatures. Many mini-splits are heat pumps, providing both cooling and heating from the same equipment.

Why Is My Ductless Unit Leaking Water?

A ductless indoor unit usually leaks water because its condensate drain line is clogged, the condensate pump has failed, or the unit is not mounted level. Dirty filters and coils can also cause the coil to freeze and then drip as it thaws. Turn the unit off to prevent wall or ceiling damage, clean the filters, and schedule a repair if the leak continues.

Why Is My Mini-Split Blowing Warm Air in Cool Mode?

A mini-split that blows warm air in cool mode often has dirty filters, an outdoor unit blocked by debris, low refrigerant, or a failed component in the outdoor compressor. Confirm the remote is set to cool rather than fan, dry, or auto mode, and clean the filters. If warm air continues, a technician should check refrigerant pressures, the outdoor fan, and the control board.

How Often Should I Clean My Ductless Filters?

Ductless mini-split filters should be cleaned about once a month during heavy use, because each indoor unit pulls air through a small filter that clogs quickly. Most filters can be removed, rinsed, and dried at home. Professional maintenance once or twice a year adds a deeper cleaning of the coils, blower wheels, and drain lines, which keeps airflow strong and helps prevent mold growth inside the unit.

Should I Repair or Replace My Ductless System?

Replacing a ductless system often makes more sense than repairing it when the equipment is more than 15 years old, needs frequent repairs, has a major refrigerant leak, or no longer keeps rooms at the set temperature. Newer systems with a single failed part are usually worth repairing. Aire Serv of Charlottesville gives you an upfront repair price, with the diagnostic fee waived when you approve the repair, so you can compare it to replacement.

Ductless Repair Without the Wait in Charlottesville

Quick visits and clear prices for wall-mounted and floor-mounted units.

Aire Serv of Charlottesville schedules same-day ductless mini-split repair Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ductless systems often serve rooms that have no other heating or cooling, such as additions, finished attics, garages, and sunrooms, so a failed indoor unit can leave that space uncomfortable right away. Same-day service gets a technician on-site to diagnose error codes, airflow problems, or refrigerant issues before the room becomes unusable.
Aire Serv of Charlottesville prices every ductless repair by the job, not the hour. Multi-zone systems can take time to troubleshoot because the problem may sit in one indoor unit, the line set, or the shared outdoor compressor. Flat pricing means that troubleshooting time does not drive up your total. You receive the repair price before any work begins, and the diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair.
Aire Serv of Charlottesville answers calls and takes bookings 24/7 and offers ductless repair estimates by phone or in person. If an indoor unit is flashing an error code, dripping water, or blowing warm air, you can call at any hour, describe the symptoms, and get a starting estimate before a technician arrives. Booking after hours reserves the next available weekday slot, so your repair is not delayed.

How We Diagnose and Repair Ductless Mini-Splits

A ductless repair visit from Aire Serv of Charlottesville starts with the indoor units, where your technician reads any error codes, checks the remote and settings, and inspects filters, blower wheels, and evaporator coils for dust buildup or ice. The condensate drain and pump are tested, since clogs are a common cause of water leaking from wall-mounted units. At the outdoor compressor, the technician inspects the coil and fan, tests electrical connections and the control board, and measures refrigerant pressures to find leaks along the line set. You receive an upfront repair price before work begins. After the repair, each zone is tested in cooling mode, and in heating mode for heat pump models, to confirm every room in your Charlottesville home is comfortable again.
